Adopt A Rhino

Several threats are edging rhinos closer to extinction. The continuing threats from illegal hunting for sport and poaching for their horns, and for use in traditional Asian medicine, mean that rhino numbers have fallen dramatically from historical levels.

The numbers of almost all species of rhino are declining – there are just over 18,000 white rhino, 5,630 black rhino, 3,588 Indian rhino and between 40 and 708 Sumatran Rhino. Javan rhino are the only species not to be in decline, but there are still just 65-58 left in the wild.

WHY ADOPT A RHINO?

Adopting a rhino helps support Born Free’s work to protect wild rhinos in Meru National Park, in Kenya. Your adoption can help fund vital equipment for our rhino rangers support the work of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to protect black and white rhino, support KWS rangers carry out daily monitoring and patrols in the Rhino Sanctuary, and help protect the vital habitat for rhino.

Wild rhino populations have plummeted in recent decades, and the main cause of this is poaching for the illegal wildlife trade, driven by a demand for rhino horn. With the support of rhino adopters, Born Free is campaigning to end this illegal trade for good.

Your adoption will help fund both our conservation and campaigning work to secure a better future for this critically endangered animal. With as little as 40 of some rhino species remaining, every adoption can have a huge impact.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN YOUR RHINO ADOPTION

You can choose either a physical adoption pack, which you will receive in the post and comes with an optional soft toy. Alternatively, you can opt for a digital adoption pack where 33% more of your adoption fee can go towards our vital work (compared to a physical adoption), and this would be received via email. Both types of adoption pack feature a personalised adoption certificate.
